CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Casey Steffan, a fourth-year on the Virginia softball team, has been selected by the coaching staff to serve as captain for the 2009 season.
“It was a pretty easy choice,” Eileen Schmidt, Virginia head coach, said. “Obviously she did not have to come back this year but she felt like she could not only help the team, but knows we are going in the right direction and wants to be a part of it.”
A Long Valley, N.J., native, Steffan has played in 78 career games with a .266 batting average and 13 stolen bases as a Cavalier. She is currently perusing a degree in government.
Virginia opens its season in Greenville, N.C., at the East Carolina Tournament Feb. 7-8.
