CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s tennis program announced Monday that two players have signed a national letter of intent during the early signing period. Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) and Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) will join the Cavaliers next season.
“We are extremely excited to have Erin and Hana joining our program,” said Virginia head coach Mark Guilbeau. “Both of these young ladies will bring a great desire, work ethic and enthusiasm to the UVa women’s tennis program, traits that will be shared by their teammates as well. Erin and Hana have proven themselves as top junior players. We look forward to working with them and helping them and the team achieve great things in the years ahead. We are grateful to Erin and Hana for their commitments and appreciate the support from their parents and coaches in the recruitment process as well.”
Vierra is a five-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net, ranked No. 31 overall by the site in the class of 2009. She is the highest ranked player in New England and is currently ranked No. 40 in the USTA U-18 national rankings. This month she reached the final of the USTA/St. Louis Gateway National Junior Championships.
Tomljanovic was born in Croatia before her family moved to Florida. She has had a ranking as high as No. 18 in the class of 2009 by tennisrecruiting.net. She has been a top player on the ITF junior circuit and reached the quarterfinals of singles and won the doubles title at the Evert Academy ITF Junior Circuit Championships earlier this month.
