CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – First-year Simone Asque has been honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference as one of the top six freshman in the league and was named to the 2008 ACC All-Freshman Volleyball Team, as announced by the conference office today. The honor marks the ninth-straight year that Virginia has placed a rookie on the league’s freshman team.
Asque, the 15th Cavalier of all-time to be honored on the rookie team, ranked third on the team in kills this season, with 203. The outside hitter dug 156 attacks, while collecting four double-doubles. She led the team in kills throughout six matches, including Virginia’s only 20-kill performance, knocking down 21 in a 3-1 win over Wake Forest.
Teammates Shannon Davis (2005), Lauren Dickson (2006) and Kendahl Voelker (2007) also received all-rookie team honors in their first year.
The Cavaliers concluded the season last Friday with a 3-2 win over instate rival Virginia Tech, to improve their final record to 17-15 overall and 9-11 in the ACC.
