Eugene Monroe Named Second-Team All-American by Rivals.com

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA Virginia senior offensive tackle Eugene Monroe has been named a second-team All-American by Rivals.com.

Monroe continues a tradition of outstanding offensive linemen at UVa. His selection marks the fourth time in the last five seasons a Virginia offensive lineman has received All-American recognition. Last year guard Branden Albert earned All-American honors from CollegeFootballNews.com and The Associated Press.

In 2004 guard Elton Brown was the first lineman under head coach Al Groh named an All-American. Tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson followed the next season.

One of the nation’s top offensive linemen, Monroe received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy this season as the best blocker in the Atlantic Coast Conference as voted on by the league’s head coaches. He was named first-team All-ACC this season for the first time in his career and had the team’s highest grade among offensive linemen in seven of 12 games this season.
