CHARLOTTESVILLE – Freshmen Tony Tchani (Bafang, Cameroon) and Brian Ownby (Glen Allen, Va.) earned All-South Atlantic Region honors, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced Thursday. Tchani was a first team selection, while Ownby was a second team honoree.

Tchani, selected the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, led the Cavaliers with nine goals and three assists for 21 points. A midfielder, he played in 13 of UVa’s 21 games due to a knee injury that sidelined him for the second half of the season.

Ownby, a forward, made 14 starts in 19 appearances for the Cavaliers and scored five goals. He also contributed four assists to Virginia’s offense and was selected to the All-ACC freshmen team.

Virginia finished the year with an overall record of 11-9-1 and advanced to the championship game of the ACC Tournament. Making its 29th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance (the longest active streak in the nation), UVa advanced to the second round.
