2008 AP All-America Football Teams
Charlottesville, VA — Virginia tackle Eugene Monroe picked up more postseason honors today when he was chosen a second-team All-American by The Associated Press. It marks the 28th time a Cavalier player has been named to the organization’s All-America squad.
The AP honor is the third All-America team Monroe has been named to since the conclusion of the regular season. He was previously named a second-team All-American by The Walter Camp Football Foundation and Rivals.com.
Monroe is the seventh player, and fourth offensive lineman, named to the AP All-America squad under head coach Al Groh since 2001. Other selections included: OT Elton Brown (2004, 1st team); TE Heath Miller (2004, 1st team); LB Ahmad Brooks (2004, 2nd team); OT D’Brickashaw Ferguson (2005, 1st team); Chris Long (2007, 1st team) and OT Branden Albert (2007, 3rd team).
One of the nation’s top offensive linemen, Monroe received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy this season as the best blocker in the Atlantic Coast Conference as voted on by the league’s head coaches. He was named first-team All-ACC this season for the first time in his career and had the team’s highest grade among offensive linemen in seven of 12 games this season.
