CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball players Lauren Dickson and Shannon Davis were honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Thursday by being named to the all-state teams. Dickson was named to the all-state first-team, while Davis was voted to the second-team.
Dickson, a third-year outside hitter, led the Cavaliers in kills and aces and was second on the team in digs this year. She collected a team-high 12 double-doubles and ranked fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in aces per set. An ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first-team member, Dickson was selected as the JMU Days Inn Tournament MVP and named the ACC Player of the Week on Oct. 6. Additionally, she is a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member.
Davis, a fourth-year middle blocker, concluded her career in the top-10 of Virginia’s all-time career records for blocks and kills, becoming just the fifth Cavalier to reach 1,000 kills and 400 blocks. She started all 32 matches for the Cavaliers this season, including 120 of 125 career matches played, and led the team in hitting percentage, while ranking second in kills and blocks. She earned MVP honors at the Marriott Jefferson Cup and was selected to the all-tournament team at all four regular season tournaments this year (JMU Days Inn Invitational, Denver Pioneer Invite, Marriott Jefferson Cup and Wildcat Classic). Davis was named to the 2007 ACC Academic Honor Roll and was a 2005 ACC All-Freshman Team honoree.
Liberty coach Shane Pinder was honored as the VaSID Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive season, while Liberty setter Kallie Corbin was named the player of the year. Virginia Tech’s Erin Leaser earned rookie of the year honors.
