CHARLOTTESVILLE No. 15 Virginia hosts Mount St. Mary’s Sunday at 1 p.m. in John Paul Jones Arena. The game will be broadcast over the airwaves on WINA 1070 in the Charlottesville area with Jay James, Myron Ripley and Larry Johnson calling the action. Virginia (8-2) is coming off of a 73-45 victory over Monmouth on Thursday night and is unbeaten at JPJA this season with a 4-0 record. Against the Hawks, Monica Wright led all scorers with 28 points, while Lyndra Littles returned to the line-up and poured in 17 points in her 2008-09 debut.
Littles, who missed games during the fall semester for academic reasons, established herself early, knocking down 8-of-14 shots from the field, grabbing five rebounds and tallying two steals. The senior from Washington, D.C., played 21 minutes.
Wright, meanwhile, shot 13-for-16 from the field and had five steals in a solid all-around effort. She leads the team and the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring, averaging 22.4 points per game.
The Cavaliers were without Aisha Mohammed, who is expected to be sidelined for approximately three weeks following her Dec. 10 arthroscopic knee surgery.
In Mohammed’s absence, first-year Chelsea Shine got her first career start, and scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and swatted four shots.
Mount St. Mary’s (5-4) is led by Brianna Gauthier (13.1 ppg) and Leah Westbrooks (10.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg). Virginia leads the series with The Mount, 5-0, and the teams last met in 2000.
