Sylven Landesberg Named ACC Rookie of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C.Virginia freshman guard Sylven Landesberg (Flushing, N.Y.) is the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. Landesberg was honored Monday (Dec. 22) for his play in Virginia’s games with Longwood and Auburn last week.

In UVa’s two games last week, Landesberg scored 42 points and had 15 rebounds. He shot 61.1 percent (11-18) from the field, making both of his three-point field goal attempts, and made 81.8 percent (18-22) of his free throw attempts in the two games.

In Virginia’s 90-61 victory over Longwood at John Paul Jones Arena on Dec. 17, Landesberg scored a game-high 20 points and had nine rebounds. He was 6-10 from the field and 8-8 from the free throw line.

In the Cavaliers’ 58-56 loss to Auburn at John Paul Jones Arena on Dec. 20, Landesberg scored a game-high 22 points and had six rebounds. He was 5-8 (62.5 percent ) from the field, including 2-2 from three-point range, and 10-14 (71.4 percent) from the free throw line.

K.C. Rivers of Clemson was honored as the ACC’s Player of the Week.
