Garcia Meets NCAA Regional Mark in Steeplechase

STANFORD, Calif. – Among the five competitors sent to compete in the Stanford Invitational Friday evening, one regional qualifying mark was met, while three others ran well under the NCAA Provisional Qualifying time in the 10k.
Sophomore Stephanie Garcia met the NCAA Regional Qualifying mark in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line in 10:25.64, while All-Americans Emily Harrison, Kara Scanlin and Katie Read met the 35:00 provisional qualifying mark in the 10000-meters.
Harrison was the first Cavalier to cross the line, finishing with a PR of 33:40.34. Her finish marks the third fastest time in school history. Scanlin finished in 33:57.18, while Read crossed in 34:01.27.
Junior Andy Biladeau rounded out those competing at Stanford, finishing the 5000m in 14:37.37.
On Saturday, the rest of the Cavaliers will compete in a dual meet against Missouri. The opening field event of the Virginia-Missouri Jefferson Dual is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Lannigan Track in Charlottesville. The first track event will be the women’s steeplechase at 1:30 p.m.
