Cavaliers Host In-State Rival William & Mary Tuesday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team will host in-state rival William & Mary on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Klckner Stadium.

The Cavaliers are coming off a tough 12-8 loss at No. 9 North Carolina on Saturday and are led by senior All-Americans Jenny Hauser, Ashley McCulloch and Blair Weymouth. McCulloch leads the team with 16 goals and 16 assists, while Weymouth has notched a team-high 23 goals. Hauser is third with 20 points on 14 goals and six assists.

Junior Kaitlin Duff leads the midfield with 17 caused turnovers and 16 draw controls, while classmate Brittany Kalkstein has won a team-best 28 draw controls.

William & Mary (3-3) is led by five attackers who have contributed double-digit goals this season. Mary Zulty leads the offense with 14 goals, while Ashley Holofcener has 12 goals and 12 assists for a team-high 24 points.

Molly Wannen leads four other W&M players in double-digit draw controls, winning 16, while Sarah Jonson has 13 caused turnovers. In goal, Emily Geary is allowing 12.36 goals per game, while stopping .455 percent of shots faced.

In the all-time series between the two programs, the Cavaliers are 25-17-1, with the two meeting every year since 1976. William & Mary was Virginia’s first-ever varsity game, with UVa losing, 10-7, in Charlottesville.

With a 13-7 record at home, the Cavaliers haven’t lost on their own turf since falling 6-5 in 1990. Virginia has won 11-straight contests in Charlottesville, dating back to a 7-6 sudden victory win in 1991, and have won the past seven games against the Tribe.

Virginia will conclude its two-match homestand with a Saturday afternoon contest against No. 9 Princeton. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. in Klckner Stadium.
