CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (25-21, 2-15 ACC) received the No. 8 seed in the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship and will play top-seeded Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. Friday, the league office announced Sunday with the completion of regular-season play.

All quarterfinal and semifinal games will be shown live on ACC Select. The championship game, set for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 10, will be shown on RSN. The event is being held at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium on the campus of NC State University.

The Yellow Jackets (40-13, 17-3 ACC), who are currently ranked No. 23/16 in the national polls, received the No. 1 seed for the first time since 2005. Georgia Tech swept the Cavaliers 3-0 in Charlottesville April 18-19.

Virginia Tech, seeded fifth, won its second consecutive conference crown in 2008 while Florida State, the No. 2 seed, has won a league-best 10 championships.
