CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head swimming coach Mark Bernardino has recently been appointed the president-elect of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the organization recently announced.

“I am very honored to serve in this role,” Bernardino said. “I pledge to do everything possible in the coming years to challenge all members of our college coaching profession to become actively involved and engaged in our organization.”

Bernardino has been appointed to serve a two-year term as president that will be followed by a two-year term as past president. He replaces George Kennedy, the head coach at Johns Hopkins University.

Bernardino is in his 32nd season at the helm of the men’s and women’s swimming programs at UVa. He has led the Cavalier men to 12 conference championships and the women to seven ACC titles. Both teams are coming off championships in 2009.

Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the oldest coaches association in the United States of America.

Presently, the CSCAA boasts more than 2,000 member coaches and assistant coaches, recognizes All-American swimmers, NCAA record-breakers and Academic All-American swimmers and teams as well as outstanding coaches and contributors, and helps oversee the welfare of collegiate swimming.
