WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Virginia sophomores Paige Selenski and Michelle Vittese were named to the 2009 NCAA Field Hockey All-Tournament Team, announced Sunday at the conclusion of the championship.

No. 2 Virginia defeated Richmond 3-0 and Michigan State 3-2 in overtime to advance to its third appearance in the NCAA semifinals, and the first since 1998. The Cavaliers ended their season with a 3-2 loss to third-seeded North Carolina on Friday. The Tar Heels went on to defeat top-seeded and unbeaten Maryland 3-2 Sunday to claim the national championship.

Selenski notched three goals in the tournament, including the game-winner against Michigan State in overtime to send UVa onto the semifinals. Vittese was instrumental in Virginia’s transition in the midfield and also tallied an assist against the Spartans. Both Selenski and Vittese were named to the All-ACC squad in addition to being selected as first-team all-south region selections.

Virginia concluded the 2009 campaign with a 20-4 mark and set programs records for wins (20) and games played (24) in a season.
