CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Freshman left-handed pitcher Danny Hultzen (Bethesda, Md.) has been named the ACC’s Pitcher of the Week following his standout performance against Florida State on Friday night.

Hultzen struck out a career-high 13 batters in seven dominating innings against the Seminoles as he improved to 4-0 this season. His 13 strikeouts were the most for a Virginia pitcher since Sean Doolittle fanned 13 on April 28, 2006, at Maryland.

Hultzen allowed just an earned run, four hits and two walks. He retired the first eight batters of the game, with the final seven of those coming via strikeouts. He did not allow a runner past first base until giving up a solo home run to Stuart Tapley in the seventh inning.

Through four games this season, Hultzen has a 1.04 ERA and has 39 strikeouts in 26 innings. He has walked just five batters.

Off to their best start in school history, the Cavaliers (15-0, 4-0 ACC) are the nation’s only remaining unbeaten team. They are slated to play Marshall (4 p.m. Tuesday), Canisius (4 p.m. Wednesday) and nationally-ranked Miami (Friday-Sunday) this week at Davenport Field.
