CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Virginia head football coach Mike London has announced that Bill Lazor has joined the Cavalier football coaching staff. He becomes the eighth member of London’s staff and will serve as the offensive coordinator. Lazor comes to Virginia after seven seasons in the NFL, most recently as the quarterbacks coach the past two years with the Seattle Seahawks.

“Bill brings a wealth of football knowledge and influence working for three NFL Hall of Fame head coaches,” said London. “Like all the other coaches on staff, he is of high character and integrity. Bill was an accomplished college quarterback as a player and has been a college coordinator and recruiter for an academic institution of high standing, which makes him a good fit with the staff who will represent the University of Virginia in a positive manner.”

“I am excited to be at the University of Virginia,” said Lazor. “First of all, I feel it’s a great atmosphere. I have lived in the state previously for four years and I have some very good friends in the area who have coached at Virginia. In my mind I have an unbelievable view of what Virginia football is, what it’s going to be and should be. I think Virginia is a place that is going to win, a place full of great people – not only the student-athletes we have a chance to coach, but also the people involved coaching the team, supporting the team and those part of the University.

“My wife and I are excited to be part of a great university atmosphere again. I am excited to work for Coach London. We have worked for some of the same coaches in the past and they could not have given me a higher recommendation of the type of person Mike London is. My trust in them and the reputation of Mike London are strong and attractive factors in coming to work for him. We will put a program together in Coach London’s vision that everyone is going to be proud of.”

With the Seahawks Lazor guided Pro Bowler Matt Hasselback for the past two seasons under head coaches Mike Holmgren and Jim Mora, Jr., respectively. Prior to his stint in Seattle, Lazor spent four seasons with the Washington Redskins. The 2006 and 2007 seasons Lazor was the quarterbacks coach for legendary head coach Joe Gibbs. In his first two seasons in Washington, Lazor was an offensive assistant. Lazor got his NFL start in 2003 under Dan Reeves as the Atlanta Falcons offensive quality control coach.

Lazor’s last collegiate stop was as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Buffalo in 2001 and 2002, just after the Bulls rejoined the FBS ranks in 1999. Prior to his days heading the Bulls offense, Lazor spent seven seasons at his alma mater, Cornell. He started as a part-time assistant in 1994 and progressed to the passing game coordinator, recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 1999 and 2000. He also spent time as the running backs, tight ends, wide receivers and junior varsity head coach during his tenure with the Big Red.

A 1994 graduate of Cornell with a bachelor of science degree in human development and family studies, Lazor was a three-year starting quarterback and graduated with 26 passing and total offensive program records. An All-Ivy League performer, Lazor was a 1993 team captain and team most valuable player as a senior, leading to an invitation to play in the 1994 Epson Ivy Bowl in Tokyo, Japan.

Lazor is a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the NFL Coaches Association (NFLCA). The Scranton, Pa., native and his wife Nicole, have a son, Nolan, and a daughter, Marin.

Bill Lazor joins Anthony Poindexter, Vincent Brown, Jeff Hanson, Mike Faragalli, Shawn Moore, Jim Reid and Chip West as coaches London has previously announced as members of his staff.
