Altomare and Nielson Advance to Match Play at U.S. Amateur

Charlotte, NC – Virginia women’s golfers Brittany Altomare and Calle Nielson advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship following Tuesday’s final round of stroke play at the Charlotte Country Club.
Altomare shot 2-over 74 for the second straight day to finish at 148. Nielson also shot 74 and advanced with a two-day total of 149. The cut came at 7-over 151 where six players had to play off for the final spot in the 64-player match play field.
Three players shared medalist honors at 4-under 138. UVa golfers Eleana Collins, Lauren Greenlief and Nicole Agnello failed to advance to match play. Collins finished with a 36-hole total of 153, Greenlief shot 156 and Agnello finished at 158.
Altomare will face Canadian Jennifer Kirby at 10:10 a.m. in her opening match play event. Kirby plays collegiate golf at Alabama. Nielson tees off at 12:30 p.m. against Sarah Ababa of the Philippines.
