CHARLOTTESVILLE – Former Virginia women’s basketball All-American and ACC Player of the Year Monica Wright, who recently wrapped up her rookie professional season playing for the Minnesota Lynx, has been named to the 2010 WNBA All-Rookie Team.

Joining Wright on the All-Rookie Team were Tina Charles (Connecticut Sun), Kalana Greene (New York Liberty), Kelsey Griffin (Connecticut Sun) and Epiphanny Prince (Chicago Sky). Wright and Charles each received 11 votes, while Greene, Griffin and Prince each got 10.

Wright, selected second overall in the 2010 WNBA Draft by the Lynx, started 24 games and played in 34. Scoring in double digits in 19 games, Wright averaged 11.1 points, second among rookies. Wright scored a career-high and rookie-high for the season with 32 points in a 92-82 win over the Phoenix Mercury on June 1.

While at Virginia, Wright was a first team All-America selection by the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in 2010. She was named the 2010 ACC Player of the Year, ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the WBCA National Defensive Player of the Year.

Wright averaged 23.7 points per game in 2010 en route to the ACC scoring title for the second-consecutive season. She broke her own UVa single-season scoring record (734 points), and became UVa’s all-time leading scorer with 2,540 career points.
