This past weekend, the team headed out to California for three big matches against San Diego, USC and Long Beach State. We were not as successful as we hoped to be but we are trying to take something positive away from the weekend. We got great experience playing three top-ranked teams and although we did not perform our best, we learned a lot about what we need to work on and get better at before the beginning of ACC play.
Our trip began on Wednesday… We flew into LA, had delicious In-n-Out Burger, had a couple hour practice at Edison High School and finished our busy day by going to my house for dinner. We were all starving by the time we got to my house and it was great to have a home cooked meal. We all had a good time hanging out, relaxing and visiting with family and friends. My brother worked the barbeque all night and made some delicious steaks! After dinner we headed back to the hotel to get some rest after our long day.
The next few days flew by so fast! Thursday we played against USD at the Long Beach State Pyramid, Friday we played against USC at the USC Galen Center and Saturday, we played vs. Long Beach State at the LBSU Pyramid. Overall, our team is really disappointed with our three losses from the weekend. We had three great opportunities to upset some of the best teams in the country and we were unable to do so. However, we all recognize that as a team, we have things to work on and improve for our upcoming matches. We also got some great experience playing in big arenas in front of a lot of people. We may have lost this weekend but we are not coming home discouraged. We have a big weekend to look forward to and we’re going to put up a tough fight vs. Virginia Tech and George Mason this weekend.
This coming weekend is going to be huge for us. One of our team goals is to win the ACC and that begins by beating Tech this coming Friday. We’re all going to put in a lot of hard work during practice this week, so come out and join us in Memorial Gym this weekend to help cheer us on.
