Cavaliers Climb to Third at Burns Intercollegiate

Kahuku, HI – Behind the play of junior All-American Ben Kohles the 16th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team moved up to third place after two rounds of play at the John Burns Intercollegiate taking place in Kahuka, Hawaii. Kohles shot 4-under 68 to move up to fourth place overall at 5-under 139. He trails tournament leader Conrad Shindler of Texas A&M by three shots heading into Friday’s final round at Turtle Bay Resort.
Will Collins and Cole Willcox also posted under-par scores Thursday for the Cavaliers. Willcox shot 2-under 70 to move up to 34th overall at 3-over 147. Collins carded a 1-under 71 and improved to 28th at 2-over 146. Amory Davis shot 2-over 74 and is 22nd at 1-over 145. Ben Rusch is 64th at 154. He shot 77 for the second consecutive day.
California posted a tournament best single-round score of 14-under 274 Thursday to build an eight-shot lead over second place Texas A&M. The Golden Bears lead the 17-team field at 19-under 557 while the Aggies are second at 565. Virginia is tied with Nevada for third at 577. The Cavaliers shot 5-under 283 during the second round.
The final round of the tournament will get underway Friday at 7:30 a.m. After playing the first two rounds at the resort’s Palmer Course, the third round will be held on the Fazio Course. Live scoring of the event is online at Golfstat.com.
