No. 1 Virginia Rowing Wins Two of Three Races vs. No. 4 Stanford

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – The top-ranked Virginia rowing team won the Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four race against No. 4 Stanford on Saturday in Redwood Shores, Calif. The Cardinal came away with the victory in the Varsity Eight race.
In a close race, Stanford finished with a time of 6:37.9 – the fastest of the day. Virginia’s time was 6:41.0. In the earlier race, No. 3 California (6:46.1) edged No. 14 UCLA (7:03.3).
Virginia’s Varsity Eight line-up was coxswain Sidney Thorsten, Kristine O’Brien, Christine Roper, Keziah Beall, Martha Kuzzy, Fiona Schlesinger, Marelle Myers, Claudia Blandford and Taylor Levine.
In the Second Varsity Eight, Virginia’s time was 6:42.1, which was the fastest of the day. Stanford was second to UVa with a time of 6:46.9. In the earlier Cal vs. UCLA race, the Bears (6:50.7) defeated the Bruins (6:59.5).
Virginia’s Second Varsity Eight line-up was coxswain Molly Frear, MacKenzie Leahy, Carli Goldberg, Carolyn Glandorf, Jenny Shultis, Morgan Joseph, Brandy Herald, Cara Linnenkohl and Hunter Terry.
UVa’s Varsity Four was also victorious over Stanford with a winning time of 7:36.2. The Cardinal’s time was 7:59.5. In earlier competition, Cal (7:37.4) defeated UCLA (7:40.1).
Virginia’s Varsity Four line-up was coxswain Sarah Jordan, Ruth Retzinger, Lauren Shook, Chelsea Simpson and Kaity McCullough.
In Sunday’s (March 27) races, Virginia takes on California and Stanford and UCLA face each other.
