Virginia Golfers Open ACC Championship Play in Sixth Place

New London, NC – The No. 22 Virginia men’s golf team is tied for sixth place after the opening round of the ACC Championships at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 7-over 295 and are tied with NC State. Sixth-ranked Georgia Tech grabbed the early lead at 7-under 281. Duke is second at 289, Clemson is third at 290, Wake Forest is fourth at 293 and Florida State is fifth at 294.
Virginia was led during the opening round by Henry Smart’s 2-under 70. He is in tied for fifth place, two shots behind co-leaders Paul Hadley and Kyle Scott of Georgia Tech. All four of UVa’s other competitors – Will Collins, Ben Kohles, Amory Davis and Bruce Woodall – finished at 3-over 75 and are tied for 27th place.
The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. Virginia’s golfers will start play at 9:40 a.m. Saturday and will be paired with Florida State and Wake Forest. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
