Virginia Baseball Announces 2011 Fall Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head baseball coach Brian O’Connor has announced his team’s upcoming fall schedule for the 2011-12 season. The slate includes three open practices, an exhibition game with the Ontario Blue Jays, the program’s annual Orange and Blue World Series and the ring ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2011 team.
Fall practice begins Saturday (Sept. 3) and runs through mid-October. Three practices will be open to the public – Sept. 3 (noon), Sept. 4 (5 p.m.) and Sept. 16 (2:30 p.m.) at Davenport Field.
Virginia fans will get their first opportunity to see the new-look Cavaliers in action on Friday, Sept. 23 when UVa takes on the Ontario Blue Jays in an exhibition game at 6 p.m. at Davenport Field. Admission to the game is free and there will be Virginia baseball raffle prizes awarded to fans throughout the game.
Virginia’s annual fall intrasquad competition, the Orange and Blue World Series, begins Sunday, Oct. 2 at Davenport Field. The seven-game series will be contested over a two-week period, ending Oct. 16. Admission to each game is free of charge.
Game 6 of the World Series, to be played Friday, Oct. 14, will feature a celebration for the 2011 UVa team. Virginia will hold its College World Series/ACC Championship ring ceremony prior to the game.
The Cavaliers return 19 letterwinners from the 2011 squad which won a school-record 56 games, earned the ACC Championship and advanced to the semifinals of the College World Series. UVa welcomes in 13 newcomers this season – 10 freshmen and three junior college transfers.
