Cavalier Men's Golfers Travel to Atlanta for U.S. Collegiate Preview

Charlottesville, VA – The 13th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team travels to Atlanta for the sixth annual United States Collegiate Championships Oct. 23-25 at The Golf Club of Atlanta. Teams will tee off starting at 9 a.m. The tournament field includes Georgia Tech, UCLA, Texas A&M, USC, Clemson, Florida State, Duke East Tennessee State, Wake Forest, Washington, Kent State, Iowa and Auburn.
Georgia Tech won last year’s tournament by 27 shots behind the play of medalist James White.
Virginia’s lineup will feature seniors Ben Kohles and Bruce Woodall, junior Mac McLaughlin and freshmen Denny McCarthy and Ji Soo Park. McCarthy leads the team after two tournaments with a 71.00 scoring average. He placed fourth at the VCU Shootout in his collegiate debut and followed that up with a sixth-place effort last weekend at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Kohles is second on the team in scoring at 71.17 and Woodall is third at 72.17.
The Cavaliers started the season with a victory at the VCU Shootout and placed second at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Last season the Cavaliers finished fifth at the U.S. Collegiate. Kohles led UVa with a seventh-place showing, shooting 1-under 215.
