Cavalier Men's Golfers Open Play at U.S. Collegiate Championships

Alpharetta, GA – The 13th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team is in 12th place after shooting 9-over 297 during the opening round of the U.S. Collegiate Championships taking place at The Golf Club of Georgia. Southern California and Auburn are tied for first at 6-under 282. A total of 12 of the 14 teams in the field are ranked in the top-30 of the current Golfstat standings.
The Cavaliers were led by freshman Ji Soo Park who is playing for the first time as a scoring player. Park shot even par 72 and is in 21st place. Classmate Denny McCarthy shot 74 and is in 37th place. Ben Kohles carded a score of 75 and is in 43rd place. Bruce Woodall and Mac McLaughlin are tied for 51st at 76.
USC’s Steve Lim leads the field after the first round at 6-under 66.
The second round of the tournament is slated for Monday and the final 18 holes will take place Tuesday. Live scoring of the event is online at Golfstat.com.
