Quotes for Miami Players

On arm injury at the end of game…
Nah, It’s ok now. I don’t know what happened.
On thoughts after game…
Very disappointing. Like I told them, I’m tired of doing this. I’m tired of always having to do a comeback victory. Always trying to come back. We always put ourselves in bad situations. We’ve got to come out and do better.
On playing after short week…
They were the same as us. They played a game Saturday just like we did. So we just had to make sure we had a good week, which we did. We had an excellent week; one of the best weeks we’ve had since I’ve been here. We didn’t come out here and execute. We didn’t play Hurricane football.
On rest of season…
We just have to win out. Win out. We can’t let anybody stop us again. We can’t go on these quick two game streaks and lose a game. We have just got to be consistent.
On not having a three-game winning streak since 2009…
I really have no answer. I just go out there and play football, try to help this team win in the best way I possibly can. I guess things just happen. Ball doesn’t always fall our way.
On Virginia stacking the box…
Yeah, it’s true. Teams stack the box and leave the passing game open and I guess we don’t do enough there to win the game. We have to step it up passing wise if teams are going to sell out. I guess we’re just going to have to spread the ball out and throw it if teams are going to sell out.
On stiff arm on last run…
I’m just trying to help the team win. That’s it. If I have to run the ball, I have got to run the ball.
On Virginia being a great tackling team…
Getting the ball to the playmakers, I expect them to break a couple of tackles, but Virginia was pretty much not letting anything like that happen. I give it to them. They’re very disciplined in that area.
On Streeter’s TD catch over two defenders…
I just trusted him. I knew that he would make the play. Seeing that he was basically with one guy underneath him and the other guy he was just one on one with, so I said I’m just going to trust him to make the play. We needed something to spark us, to fuel us to go forward so that was our momentum.
On injury…
It was an arm. Just got hit.
On being banged up lately…
I’m cool. No matter what you’ll still see me on the field. Broken leg, whatever it is, I’ll be there. I’m telling you the truth. I’ve been doing it my whole career.
On offensive line…
They did good. They did exactly what they needed to do. Took care of their job. We just have to get our running game going.
Jimmy Gaines
On loss…
We just have to keep fighting, come through from the mistakes and just bounce back.
On coming off a triple option offense…
At the end of the day, we’re always going to game plan for the next team. It wasn’t difficult, we just have to keep it moving. Every week, we watch the film and have to execute the game plan that the coaches give us.
On what Virginia did to beat them…
It wasn’t what they were doing, but what we were doing. Everybody has to do their job. Everybody has a specific job that they have to do for us to be successful. If somebody doesn’t do their job, it shows.
On giving up big plays…
That’s part of the game plan, we have to run to the ball. As a defense, we have to get to the ball and just fly around.
On giving up touchdown…
We got to keep on playing. You got to win your one on one battle. At the need of the day, every play is a one on one battle. On that play, I didn’t win mine. I have to come back and make sure I correct the things I need to correct.
Sean Spence
On what to work on…
We just have to get back to the basics.
On how it feels giving up these big touchdown plays…
It’s very frustrating. We talk about it every week. No explosive plays, and we gave up two tonight. It caused us to lose.
On loss…
I’m hurting. I thought we’d get some more wins. It was a short week, but we make no excuses. It’s not a great feeling right now. Another L in that column. But like I said, we have to get back to work and getting better.
Denzel Perryman
On how to turn the defense around…
Yeah, it’s pretty much discipline, everybody getting to the ball. Pretty much we have to get those strip attempts, we have to make plays.
On Canes offense…
They’re a pretty good offense. But I’m on defense so we’re not doing our job, making plays like we’re supposed to. Our defense is set up to where if everybody is doing their job, we’re good. It all came down to us just doing our job and executing.
On losing to Virginia…
It’s tough for us. Some of the seniors said last year, at the same time they lost to Virginia, it was like their hump game. We didn’t do what we needed to do.
On coming off of facing the option…
Georgia Tech was just straight option. Option was all we were focusing on. Coming back, short week, we had to focus on just a regular offense.
