Virginia men’s soccer, one of the top Major League Soccer (MLS) talent-producing programs of all time, has sent more than 40 players on to the professional ranks. Here is a look at recent action of several former Cavaliers:
Ross LaBauex (2006-2009)
Colorado Rapids
– Appeared in 11 games with four starts at midfield
– Recorded 16 minutes in Colorado’s 2-0 first-round playoff loss to Sporting KC
Tony Tchani (2008-2009)
Columbus Crew
– Appeared in two games, starting one, for the New York Red Bulls before being traded to Toronto FC on April 1, 2011
– Started 13 games for Toronto FC at midfielder, recording one goal
– Acquired by Columbus Crew in July 2011
– Made debut for Columbus on October 27, 2011 in the MLS Playoffs after undergoing knee surgery in August
Hunter Freeman (2002-2004)
Houston Dynamo
– Returned to the MLS after playing two seasons for IK Start in the Norwegian Premier League
– Started 22 matches at outside back, recording one goal and two assists
– Goal came against New England on 4/17 in the final minutes of a 1-0 win
– Made his 100th MLS career appearance in a 1-1 tie vs. KC on July 16
Adam Cristman (2003-2006)
LA Galaxy
– Acquired by Los Angeles on January 11, 2011 in trade with D.C. United
– Part of MLS Cup Championship team with the Galaxy
– Appeared in 11 games, starting five, at forward
– Recorded one goal and one assist during the 2011 campaign
Chris Tierney (2004-2007)
New England Revolution
– Appeared in 27 matches, starting 25 in the midfield
– Recorded two assists in 4-4 tie against Philadelphia (9/7)
– Assisted on game winning goal at DC United (7/20)
– Recorded goal in 3-3 tie at Real Salt Lake (7/4)
– Notched assist in 1-2 loss at New York (6/10)
– Scored lone goal in a 1-2 loss at San Jose (5/21)
Chris Albright (1997-1998)
New York Red Bulls
– Made eight appearances in 2011, starting six at defense
Chris Agorsor (2008-2009)
Real Salt Lake
– Acquired by Philadelphia Union in special player lottery on February 14, 2011
– Scored two goals in a preseason match against Hersonissos F.C. (3/3)
– Waived by Philadelphia on June 2
– Signed with Real Salt Lake on July 21
– Appeared in first match for Real Salt Lake in a 3-0 loss to Vancouver (10/6)
