Jenkins and Guilbeau Lead U.S. to Master'U BNP Paribas Championship

ROUEN, France — Virginia men’s tennis player Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) and Virginia women’s tennis coach Mark Guilbeau were members of the American team that won the 2011 Master’U BNP Paribas Championship. The United States won three matches to take the title in the eight-team international collegiate competition.

Each team consisted of six players and played a seven-match format consisting of two men’s and two women’s singles matches, one men’s and one women’s doubles match, and one mixed doubles match.

The United States won 6-1 over Germany in the quarterfinals and 7-0 over Belgium in the semifinals. In the final, against host France, the Americans trailed 3-1 after singles, but rallied to win all three doubles matches to win 4-3. Jenkins teamed with USC’s Daniel Nguyen for the men’s doubles victory in that comeback.

Jenkins was the first Virginia player to compete in the event, which the USTA has fielded a team since 2009. Guilbeau was coaching the team for the second consecutive year with Boise State men’s tennis coach Greg Patton.
