Brian Named Soccer America Freshman of the Year

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) was named the 2011 Soccer America Freshman of the Year as the publication announced its postseason awards on Thursday. She was also named as a second-team Soccer America MVP.

Brian becomes the first Cavalier to be named Soccer America Freshman of the Year in the 25-year history of the award.

Brian, a first-team NSCAA All-American, had 11 goals and eight assists during her rookie season. The ACC Freshman of the Year and an All-ACC first team selection, seven of her goals came against conference foes, including all three of her game-winning goals. She was one of 15 semifinalists for the Hermann Trophy, given annually to the nation’s top player.
