CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
Rising sophomore JB Kolod and incoming freshman Carl Buergler qualified for the AT&T National Diving Championships this past weekend at the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone A Championships, which were held at Settler’s Cabin in Oakdale, Pa., July 19-21.
Kolod qualified for the national meet in both the men’s 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events, while Buergler also advanced on the 3-meter board. The top four finishers in each event qualified for the national championships, which will be held Aug 14-19 in Greensboro, N.C.
“I am very excited to have not only one Virginia diver in JB Kolod, but to also have incoming first-year Carl Buergler move on to this prestigious meet,” Virginia diving coach Rich MacDonald said. “All the divers battled heavy rain throughout the entire meet. I am proud with how they all stepped up and competed so well.”
On Thursday (July 19), Kolod finished fourth in the 1-meter board with a score of 325.10, moving up one position after the prelims. Buergler placed 14th (261.95), while fellow incoming freshmen Jordan Sacks and Colby Shinholser finished 19th and 21st, respectively. Rising sophomore Laura Gartrell competed in the women’s 3-meter and placed 40th.
