COLLEGE PARK, Md.—Virginia volleyball sophomore Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) recorded her second triple-double of the season, but the Cavaliers fell to Maryland, 27-25, 14-25, 22-25, 19-25, in an Atlantic Coast Conference match Sunday afternoon (Sept. 30).

The Terps (10-6, 2-3 ACC) hit .275 with 58 kills, while holding the Cavaliers (5-10, 0-5 ACC) to 44 kills and a .137 hitting percentage.

Janowski earned 12 kills, 12 digs and 16 assists to become just the third Cavalier to record multiple triple-doubles in a career joining Dana Builterman (six triple-doubles) and Deanna Zwarich (two). She tallied her first triple-double against VCU on Sept. 7.

Freshman Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) also had 12 kills, while junior Emily Rottman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the squad with 15 digs.

The first set was tied at 14 when the Cavaliers earned five of six points to lead 19-15. UVa extended their lead to 23-19 but the Terps went on a 5-1 run to tie the set at 24.

After Maryland fought off a second set, a kill by Bausback and an ace by senior Jessica O’Shoney (Austin, Texas) gave the set to Virginia, 27-25. O’Shoney’s serve hit the net and barely rolled over onto Maryland’s side of the court.

In the second set, Maryland hit .423 while limiting UVa to an .097 hitting percentage on the way to a 25-15 win.

After the score was tied at eight in the third, Maryland went on a 6-1 run and continued on to a 25-22 win.

In the fourth set, both teams struggled offensively as Maryland hit .095 and UVa had eight errors and hit -.022 in a 25-19 Terp win.

Ashleigh Crutcher tallied 18 kills and 19 digs to lead Maryland.

Next weekend, the Cavaliers play at Clemson on Friday (Oct. 5) at 8:30 p.m., and Georgia Tech on Saturday (Oct. 6) at 7 p.m. The match against Clemson will be televised on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks (Comcast SportsNet in Virginia).
