Women's Tennis Begins Pre-Qualifying at ITA All-American

LOS ANGELES – The Virginia women’s tennis team opened play at the 2012 ITA All-American Championships on Saturday as pre-qualifying started on the campus of UCLA. The Cavaliers had two singles players and one doubles team advance on the first day.
In doubles, the team of Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) topped No. 6 seed Callie Craig and Elena Najera-Salas of Utah, 8-5.
In singles, two Cavaliers won a pair of matches to reach the final round of pre-qualifying. Elbaba cruised to a pair of straight-set wins, downing Patricia Skowronski of Oregon 6-1, 6-0 in the first round and No. 13 seed CC Sardinha of Oklahoma State 6-0, 6-2 in the second round.
Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) defeated No. 10 seed Annie Mulholland of Duke in the first round before downing Tulane’s Emma Levy in three sets in the second round.
Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) posted a first round win over Julia Jones of Ole Miss, but fell to Danielle Collins of Florida in the second.
The pre-qualifying draw concludes Sunday with winners advancing to the qualifying draw, which begins Monday.
