Styslinger, Domijan/Richmond Advance to ITA All-American Main Draw

TULSA, Okla. – The Virginia men’s tennis team had one singles player and one doubles team advance to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships during the final day of qualifying at the Case Tennis Center. Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) reached the main draw of singles and the duo of Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Harrison Richmond (Pawleys Island, S.C.) won a pair of matches to advance in doubles.

Styslinger advanced to the main draw with his third consecutive win in qualifying, downing Eric Johnson of USC 7-5, 6-4. He will play Dymtro Mamedov of Utah in the first round of the main draw.

Two other Cavaliers are in the field of 64 due to direct entry into the main draw. Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) is the tournament’s No. 2 seed and will open play against Josh McTaggert of Indiana. Domijan is the No. 6 seed and faces Daniel Whitehead of Texas in the first round.

In doubles qualifying, the team of Domijan and Richmond opened Wednesday’s action with an 8-5 win over Clay Thompson and Dennis Mkrtchian of UCLA. In the final round of qualifying, the Cavalier pair cruised to an 8-1 win over David O’Leary and Joe Salisbury of Memphis. They join the duo of Jenkins and Styslinger in the 32-team doubles draw.

Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Jonathan Cornish (London, England) were also scheduled to play in the qualifying doubles draw on Wednesday, but had to withdraw from the tournament.

Main draw play begins on Thursday on the campus of the University of Tulsa and runs through Sunday.
