ATHENS, Ga. – The Virginia women’s tennis team continued play Saturday on the second day of action at the Bulldog Classic at the Dan Magill Tennis Center. The Cavaliers competed against players from Georgia and Indiana, winning one doubles match and four singles matches.
The Cavaliers had a slow start to the day in doubles, winning just one of four matches. Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) split their two matches against teams from Indiana and Georgia, while the team of Li Xi (Kunming, China) and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) suffered a pair of losses.
For the second consecutive day, Virginia went unbeaten in singles against players from Indiana. Highlighting that strong singles performance was Nauta’s 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(3) win over 50th-ranked Leslie Hureau. Three other Cavaliers won their singles match in straight sets. Xi downed Katie Klyczek 6-3, 6-3, Epstein topped Jithme Jayawickrema 6-3, 6-4, and Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) defeated Shannon Murdy, 7-6(3), 6-2.
The tournament concludes Sunday with one round of singles.
