UVa Men's Golfers in Fifth Place at U.S. Collegiate

Alpharetta, Ga. – The Virginia men’s golf team is in fifth place after the opening round of play at the U.S. Collegiate Championship taking place at The Golf Club of Atlanta in Alpharetta, Ga. The Cavaliers shot 7-over 295 and trail tournament-leading USC by six shots.
The 15-team field includes 10 teams currently ranked in the top 25 of the Golfstat rankings.
Freshman Nick McLaughlin led UVa by shooting 1-under 71 to stand in seventh place after the opening 18 holes. Denny McCarthy is 12th after shooting 72 and three Cavaliers, Mac McLaughlin, David Pastore and Ji Soo Park, are tied for 39th at 4-over 76.
Oklahoma State’s Talor Gooch leads the field at 4-under 68.
The second round will be played Saturday and the final 18 holes will be contested Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
