Women's Tennis Continues Strong Play at ITA Atlantic Regional

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team continued its strong play at the ITA Atlantic Regional on Sunday at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Cavaliers had five singles players reach the singles quarterfinals and two teams reach the doubles quarterfinals.
No. 2 seed Li Xi (Kunming, China) advanced with straight set wins over Kelly Comolli of Georgetown and 9-16 seed Sali Kvitashvili of VCU. She meets 9-16 seed Isel Martinez-Marcos of Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals.
No. 3 seed Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) posted a pair of 6-1, 6-4 wins on Sunday to advance, downing Jacqueline Zuhse of Penn State and 9-16 seed Carmen Sandor of Penn State. She plays Raluca Mita of Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals.
No. 4 seed Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) will face No. 9-16 seed Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) in the quarterfinals. Vierra had straight-set wins over Audrey Wooland of West Virginia and 9-16 seed Chelsea Utting of Penn State. Peretz topped Yana Mavrina of Temple in the round of 32 before edging fifth-seeded Maria Belaya of William & Mary 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 in the round of 16.
No. 8 seed Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) posted a pair of dramatic wins to reach the quarterfinals. She downed Leeza Nemchinov of William & Mary 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(3) before rallying for a 3-6, 7-2, 7-5 win over 9-16 seed Dominika Zaprazna of Marshall. She faces top-seeded Petra Januskova of Penn State in the quarterfinals.
In doubles, the second-seeded team of Nauta and Xi and the seventh-seeded pair of Epstein and Vierra both advanced to the quarterfinals with a win on Sunday.
The tournament continues Monday on the campus of Virginia Tech.
