Jenkins Reaches Doubles Final of Charlottesville Challenger

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia senior Jarmere Jenkins (College Park. Ga.) reached the doubles final of the Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger, a $75,000 event on the ATP Challenger Tour at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Jenkins has teamed with young American Jack Sock, a rising star in pro tennis, to win three matches to reach the final.

Sock and Jenkins, who received a wild card entry into the event, will play second-seeded John Peers and John-Patrick Smith in the final. Peers was an All-American at Baylor and Smith was the 2008 NCAA Singles Runner-Up.

In the round of 16, Jenkins and Sock rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 win over Adam Hubble and Andrei Daescu. They followed that with a 6-4, 6-3 quarterfinal upset of the top seeds, former Cavalier Treat Huey (Class of 2008) and his partner Bobby Reynolds. In the semifinals, they edged Alex Kuznetsov and Mischa Zverev 7-6(4), 4-6, 10-7.

By reaching the final, Jenkins, who is currently ranked No. 868 in the world doubles rankings, will climb into the world top 600. With a victory in the final, his ranking would climb near No. 450 in the world next week.
