CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Maryland, 32-30, 25-18, 25-17, Friday night (Nov. 9) at Memorial Gymnasium.
Virginia dropped to 8-19 (2-14 ACC) on the season, while Maryland improved to 14-13 (6-10 ACC) on the year.
Senior Jessica O’Shoney (Austin, Texas) earned a team-high 12 kills, while freshman Vivian Burcescu (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) hit .667 with seven kills.
In a first set that saw 27 ties, Maryland fought off five consecutive set points before converting on its third of the frame to win, 32-30.
Maryland claimed the second set, 25-18, after hitting .462 with 15 kills, while the Cavaliers hit just .154.
In the third, the Terps held UVa to a .097 hitting percentage and won, 25-17.
Ashleigh Crutcher led Maryland with 14 kills.
The Cavaliers return to action Saturday (Nov. 10) when they host Boston College at Memorial Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Fans who attend Saturday’s UVa football game against Miami can bring their ticket stubs and receive free admission to Saturday night’s volleyball match against Maryland (based on availability).
Before Saturday’s match, the Cavaliers will honor their three seniors, Tobi Farrar, Rachel Gray and O’Shoney, who will play at Mem Gym for the final time in their UVa careers.
