CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Cavaliers (1-0), ranked No. 6 in this week’s USILA coaches and Nike/Inside Lacrosse media polls, conclude their two-game home stand on Tuesday when the VMI Keydets (0-2) invade Klöckner Stadium. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m. and live stats will be available at VirginiaSports.com.
There will be a live video webcast available through Cavaliers Live at VirginiaSports.com for a subscription fee. John Freeman will bring the play-by-play and Doug Tarring will provide the analysis.
Virginia owns a 19-0 all-time record against the Keydets and 2013 is the eighth-straight season the two programs have met in a series that started in 1949. Virginia head coach Dom Starsia is 12-0 all-time against VMI. The Cavaliers’ average victory margin in the series is 18.7 goals and Tuesday’s game marks the first time since the 2007 meeting that Virginia isn’t ranked as the nation’s No. 1 team.
Matt White led UVa with three goals and one assist, while Steele Stanwick had two goals and five assists in Virginia’s 19-5 win over VMI the last time these two programs collided. VMI did lead for 5:41 in the first quarter at 1-0, only the second time the Keydets have led in the series in records dating back to the 1988 matchup.
Virginia returns to action after the thrilling overtime win on Saturday against the visiting Drexel Dragons. White led the way with four goals, including the game-winner only 11 seconds into the extra period. Nick O’Reilly had a game-high eight points after dishing out a career-high six assists. Goalie Dan Marino became the sixth UVa first-year to start in the cage for a season-opening game, dating back to 1971, the first year lacrosse was an NCAA Championship sport. Marino’s 15 saves set a program record for most saves by a UVa freshman goalie making his first career start. The 15 saves also rank as the third-most in program history by any Cavalier making his first career start.
VMI and third-year head coach Brian Anken bring a 0-2 Keydets team into Klöckner Stadium after setbacks to Navy and Army.
Russell East leads VMI with five goals and one assist for six points. Bernie Mowbray is second on the team with three goals and two assists for five points. Gaston Ledford is 29-of-54 on faceoffs for a .537 success rate. Matt Lindermann is saving 51.4 percent of shots, while posting a 17.00 goals against average inside the pipes.

Single-game tickets to lacrosse games are $8 (adult general admission), and $6 (youth, senior, faculty/staff general admission).
