PALM SPRINGS, Calif.—The Virginia softball team fell to No. 9 Oregon, 13-0 in five innings, Friday night (Feb. 22) at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. With the loss, the Cavaliers dropped to 5-6 on the season, while the Ducks improved to 10-3.
The Ducks struck for eight runs on six hits in the first inning, including a Kailee Cuico two-run home run.
Junior Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.) hit a single in the third inning for UVa’s only hit.
Freshman pitcher Emma Mitchell (0-1) made her first start, but allowed seven runs (six earned) in a third of an inning. Classmate Aimee Chapdelaine gave up six runs (five earned) in 3.2 innings of relief.
Oregon’s Jessica Moore improved to 5-2 with four strikeouts in three innings.
The Cavaliers face Colorado State and No. 20 Stanford on Saturday at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Eastern.
