Cavalier Men's Golfers Open USF Invitational in Third Place

Dade City, Fla. – The Virginia men’s golf team opened its spring schedule by finishing the opening round of the USF Invitational in third place. The Cavaliers shot 1-over 289 at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla., and trail co-leaders South Carolina and NC State by two shots.
Cavalier sophomore Denny McCarthy led UVa with a 1-under 71 to end the first round in eighth place. Ji Soo Park and Alex Lloyd are tied for 11th place at even par 72 and Mac McLaughin and Nick McLaughlin are tied for 22nd at 2-over 74. The tournament is the first in Lloyd’s career.
Three players shot 4-under 68 to lead the field after the opening 18 holes including NC State’s Albin Choi, South Carolina’s Dykes Harbin and Kentucky’s Stephen Powers.
The second round of the tournament is set for Monday and the final round will be played Tuesday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
