No. 1 Cavaliers Top Texas 5-2 for 10th Win of the Year

AUSTIN, Texas – The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team won its third match in five days on its spring break road-trip, downing No. 14 Texas 5-2 Friday night at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Cavaliers improve to 10-0 on the season, with seven of those wins against teams currently ranked in the top 20. The Longhorns suffered their first home loss of the season and fell to 10-5 overall.
Virginia took an early 1-0 lead in the match by winning the doubles point. At No. 2, Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Mitchell Frank cruised to an 8-2 win over Ben Chen and Daniel Whitehead. Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Julen Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) followed with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 over Soren Hess-Olesen and Nick Naumann to clinch the opening point.
In singles, the Cavaliers won three matches in straight sets to quickly claim the dual match victory. In the two match-ups of nationally ranked players, fifth-ranked Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) topped No. 43 Hess-Olesen 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and No. 81 Frank downed No. 82 Whitehead 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 to extend the Cavalier lead to 3-0. Shane clinched the win with his 6-0, 7-6(4) victory over David Holiner at the No. 6 position.
The final three matches went three sets. At No. 2, Domijan rallied from dropping the opening set for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 win over Lloyd Glasspool to extend the lead to 5-0. The Longhorns won the final two matches with Sudanwa Sitaram topping Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 and Naumann edging Harrison Richmond (Pawleys Island, S.C.) 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5.
Virginia concludes its road trip on Sunday as it visits No. 15 Illinois. Match time is 12 p.m. CT (1 p.m. ET).
