UVa Men's Golfers Open Play at Schenkel Invitational

Statesboro, Ga. – The Virginia men’s golf team opened play at the Schenkel Invitational in Stateboro, Ga., Friday by shooting 9-over 301. The Cavaliers are tied with Mississippi for 14th place. Texas, ranked No. 6, leads the field at 8-under 280. Florida is in second place at 285.
Nick Tremps led Virginia with a 1-over 73 during the first round. He finished the day in 22nd place. Mac McLaughlin shot 2-over 74 and is in 30th place. Ji Soo Park is 45th at 75, Denny McCarthy is 78th at 79 and Alex Lloyd is 80th at 80.
Alabama’s Justin Thomas leads the field at 5-under 67. Four players are tied for second at 4-under 68.
The second round of the tournament will be held Saturday and the final round is slated for Sunday.
