Virginia Voted No. 1 in First CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll of 2013 Season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The defending national champion Virginia rowing team has been voted No. 1 in the first Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing Coaches Poll of the 2013 season. It is the 11th time in program history that the Cavaliers have been ranked No. 1 in the national weekly poll.

The Cavaliers earned 20 first-place votes for 474 points, ahead of California, who was second with 448 points (five first-place votes). Princeton (436) was third, followed by Southern California (368) and Washington (361).

With this week’s poll, Virginia has been ranked nationally for the 55th consecutive week and 91 times overall. The Cavaliers were ranked No. 1 in 2012’s first poll, as well as the final poll after winning the program’s second NCAA Championship last May.

Last week, the Cavaliers won 17 races at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational March 16-17 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. UVa swept the races against Louisville and West Virginia Saturday morning (March 16), Georgetown and future ACC foe Notre Dame Saturday afternoon, and claimed five of six races against Alabama and ACC rival Duke Sunday morning.

Next up, the Cavaliers travel west for the San Diego Crew Classic April 6-7 in San Diego, Calif.
