CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against NC State, 10-1 and 10-0 (six innings), Saturday afternoon (April 20) at The Park.
The Cavaliers fell to 18-24 on the season (3-14 ACC), while the Wolfpack improved to 25-18-1 (9-7 ACC).
In the first game, NC State hit four home runs, including two solo shots by Renada Davis, on the way to a 10-1 win.
The Cavaliers earned their only run in the fifth on an RBI Single from junior Karli Johnson (Lovettsville, Va.) that scored senior Lauren Didlake (Bowling Green, Va.).
Senior pitcher Melanie Mitchell (White Plains, Md., 13-14) allowed five runs in five innings of work, striking out seven. Freshman Emma Mitchell (Doswell, Va.) gave up five runs (two earned) in two innings of relief.
NC State’s Emily Weiman (23-16) allowed four hits and one run with seven strikeouts in seven innings for the win.
In the second game, two Cavalier errors led to four Wolfpack runs in the fifth and Scout Albertson hit a grand slam in the sixth as NC State was victorious, 10-0.
Freshman pitcher Aimee Chapdelaine (Pemproke Pines, Fla.) allowed 10 runs (six earned) in six innings in the loss (5-9).
Weiman pitched her second complete game of the day, giving up two hits with four strikeouts for the shutout.
Johnson and Didlake had the two Cavalier hits.
The two teams conclude the series on Sunday at The Park with first pitch scheduled for a noon start.
