UVa Men's Golfers in Sixth Place After Day One of ACC Championships

New London, N.C. – The Virginia men’s golf team is in sixth place after the opening round of the ACC Championships at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. The Cavaliers posted an opening round score of 1-under 287. Florida State, ranked No. 14, leads the 11-team field at 17-under 271. Ninth-ranked Duke and Virginia Tech are tied for second at 6-under 282.
Virginia was one of six teams that managed to break par on the first day of competition.
The Cavaliers were led by David Pastore, who equaled his career best single-round score by shooting 3-under 69. Pastore did not get his first round off to a fast start. He stood at 2-over after posting back-to-back bogeys on the third and fourth holes. He then collected six birdies over his next 12 holes before recording a bogey on 17 and a par on 18. Pastore is tied for fifth-place.
Florida State’s Daniel Berger leads the field at 7-under 65.
Virginia’s other scores included a 72 by Nick Tremps, 73s by Mac McLaughlin and Denny McCarthy and a 74 by Ji Soo Park. Tremps is in 19th place while McLaughlin and McCarthy are tied for 24th. Park is in 29th place.
