Virginia, Rutgers Play to Scoreless Draw in Exhibition Finale

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s soccer team played Rutgers to a scoreless draw Saturday evening at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. Ranked 14th nationally by Top Drawer Soccer and 25th by the NSCAA, the Cavaliers controlled play for much of the evening, out-shooting Rutgers, 16-2, and putting five shots on goal while not yielding a shot on goal.
The friendly was the Cavaliers’ final exhibition prior to their regular-season opener Friday (Aug. 30) at home against No. 10 Louisville at Klöckner Stadium.
In two exhibition games the Cavaliers out-shot their opponents 27-4 while racking up 16 corner kicks to their foes’ seven. UVa held both Rutgers and Radford scoreless.
Sophomore transfer Jeff Gal (Bartlett, Ill.) played all 90 minutes in goal for Virginia. Eric Bird (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded a team-high four shots for the Cavaliers.

Single-game tickets are on sale now and are $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors and faculty/staff. Group ticket orders of 20 or more tickets are $4.
