Virginia Sweeps ACC Volleyball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C.—The Virginia volleyball team has swept the first Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball weekly awards of the 2013 season, the conference announced Tuesday (Sept. 2). Junior Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) and freshman Jasmine Burton (White Hills, Calif.) have been named ACC Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively.

Janowski was named the Most Valuable Player of the Jefferson Cup, which saw the Cavaliers win their first three matches of the 2013 campaign. Janowski led Virginia with 5.30 kills per set, including 20 against James Madison on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday evening, the junior tallied 21 kills and a career-high five service aces against Montana. In three matches, Janowski also led the squad with six aces (0.60 aps) and was second on the team with a .364 hitting percentage.

Burton started off her collegiate career with an outstanding match against Marshall on Friday, hitting .520 with 14 kills and only one error. She also led the team in blocks with five. For the weekend, Burton was third on the team with 3.00 kills per set and a .338 hitting percentage and second with 0.60 blocks per set.

It is the first time a Virginia student-athlete has won a conference volleyball weekly award since November 2010.

The Cavaliers return to action this weekend when they head west to compete in a tournament at Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. UVa faces Colorado State on Friday evening before facing the host Waves and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
