Cavaliers Continue Play at UVa Ranked+1 Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The reigning NCAA Champion Virginia men’s tennis team continued play Saturday at the UVa Ranked+1 Invitational, its first home tournament of the fall. During the second day of play, the Cavaliers won a doubles flight and reached two singles flight finals.
The doubles pair of sophomore Harrison Richmond (Pawleys Island, S.C.) and first-year J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) won the Green Doubles draw. In the semifinals, the duo upset second-seeded Amerigo Contini and Joao Monteiro of Virginia Tech, 8-4. In the final, they edged the North Carolina pair of Brett Clark and Ronnie Schneider, 9-7.
Sophomore Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.), the No. 2 seed in the Blue Singles draw, advanced to the final with a 6-1, 6-1 win over sixth-seeded Nick Horton of NC State. He plays top-seeded Cameron Silverman of Elon in Sunday’s final.
Also advancing to a flight final was first-year Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.). He received a walkover semifinal win on Saturday when Memphis’ Connor Glennon withdrew. Corinteli will play Andreas Bjerrehus of Virginia Tech in the final.
The tournament concludes Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center with play beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
