WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and freshman Rachel Pierson(Princeton, N.J.) continued their strong play in day two action Saturday (Sept. 21) at the Tribe Invitational.
Elbaba and freshman Pierson captured the Katrin Guenther doubles flight with an 8-3 win over South Carolina’s Dominika Kanakova and Brigit Folland.
Elbaba, Pierson, sophomore Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and senior Caryssa Peretz(Cherry Hill, N.J.) advanced to the finals in their respective flights to highlight singles play for UVa.
Elbaba and Pierson will face off in the finals of the Megan Moulton-Levy singles flight. Elbaba beat South Carolina’s Elixane Lechemia 6-1, 6-3, while Pierson defeated Utah’s Tereza Bekerova 6-2, 6-2.
Collins defeated Harvard’s Spencer Liang 6-1, 6-2 in the Lauren Nikolaus flight to set up a finals match against William & Mary’s Maria Belaya.
Peretz defeated William & Mary’s Melanie Roy 6-3, 6-1 and will play South Carolina’s Ximena Siles-Luna in the finals of the Kristine Kurth flight.
The Cavaliers are competing in singles and doubles against players from Arkansas, Dartmouth, Harvard, Marshall, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, VCU and host William & Mary.
The action concludes Sunday at three facilities – the Millie West Tennis Facility, Commons Courts and the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
